Van Fundraising Campaign

New Chrysler Voyager LX Van with Rear Entry and Ramp

Need

The Ridgewood at Shenango Valley is in need of a new wheelchair-accessible van to replace the outdated1999 Volkswagen Eurovan nearing the end of its service life. It can no longer be used to transport residents in wheelchairs due to present day safety requirements.

Purpose

The new van will be used to take residents to vital healthcare-related appointments such as doctor visits, treatment and testing throughout the region. Some residents do not have local family members available or able take them to these critical appointments, and they rely on our staff for transportation.

In addition to medical appointments, the new van will enable residents to participate in off-campus community events, such as voting in elections, attending concerts and live theater performances, and enjoying social outings like dining out, shopping, and sight-seeing trips to popular destinations in the region like Kraynak’s and the Linesville Spillway.

Benefits

This project will remove a transportation barrier for our residents, which may achieve the following positive outcomes:

  • They will able to stay healthier because they are able to get to their healthcare appointments in a timely, consistent manner.
  • They will be able to stay engaged in their community and society as a whole, which helps them have a sense of meaning and purpose in their lives and improves overall quality of life.
  • They will be able to stay socially-active which leads to an improved sense of physical, emotional and mental wellbeing and reduces the risk of social isolation and loneliness.
